Challenge

Overburdened Staff: Manual invoice processing left little room for strategic financial tasks

Expanding demand: The existing process couldn’t support additional departments

Quanton’s client, one of New Zealand’s largest government agencies, was struggling with slow, manual accounts payable (AP) processes. Staff were tied up with repetitive tasks, leaving little room for higher-value work. To solve this, the agency needed to scale and onboard more departments onto a shared AP platform—with more automation, but without adding headcount.

Quanton was brought in to help implement an intelligent and scalable way to process invoices faster with less manual effort.

Solution

The Quanton team launched a project to modernize the agency’s AP operations. From the outset, they knew the solution needed to equip the agency with substantial, measurable gains.

Quanton turned to ABBYY’s intelligent document processing (IDP) solution, a purpose-built platform designed to automate and accelerate documentheavy workflows to enable straight-through processing.

The impact was immediate. The agency automated invoice processing and eliminated manual bottlenecks, resulting in an 80% improvement in document processing efficiency and significantly reduced turnaround times. Accuracy also improved significantly: automation reduced errors by over 60%.

With less time spent on repetitive tasks, the AP team could manage higher volumes and dedicate more time to financial reporting, data analysis, and other higher-value tasks. Other government agencies saw the benefits and chose to adopt or join the same centralized AP platform.

In total, Quanton helped reduce the agency’s costs by an impressive 55% and created the foundation for broader digital transformation across the public sector.
